Other Breeds
Although we do have lots of pure bred breeding stock, we also have a "just for fun" flock. This includes mostly full-blooded birds, with a few mixes. When purchasing any Easter Egger eggs or chicks, they will come from these hens under an Ameraucana rooster. Occasionally I may separate out the Easter Egger hens and put them in with an Easter Egger rooster, but this is not very common. I will not put an Easter Egger rooster with any other breed other than other Easter Eggers, unless the chicks/eggs are labeled barnyard mix. The reason I do this is to maintain as much probability for colorful eggs as possible with the Easter Eggers. For instance, Ameraucana x RIR hens are far more likely to lay colorful eggs than EE x RIR hens, because the EE x RIR hens are less likely to carry a copy of the blue egg gene. With that in mind, this means a EE x EE hen is more likely to lay colorful eggs than a EE x RIR hen because a EE x EE is more likely to receive at least one copy of the blue egg gene. If you are confused by this, please don't hesitate to reach out. I would be happy to explain it more thoroughly!
